HUMAN BY WONDERLAND #8
Hello, Friends.
Welcome to Edition 8 of HUMAN.
Within this edition, you’ll find our latest thought leadership article which explores the investment boom beginning to bloom in the green tech space. We’ve also rounded up - as usual - our favourite corners of the internet, dived into an investment of mammoth proportions, and explored the epic aesthetics of Mold. Enjoy!
If you have time at the end, we’d love it if you could spare a minute or two to fill out the survey at the bottom and let us know what you think of HUMAN!
Enjoy!
A wave of green investment is starting to bloom
Climate change is here. It’s ugly, it’s brutal, and more importantly, it’s only going to get worse. For decades, governments and businesses have ignored the experts, tiptoed around the science, and applied bandaids rather than implementing full-scale social and commercial surgery to combat the damage done to mother nature.
However, recent trends in investment patterns are showing the way to a brighter, more optimistic future that sees the billions of dollars of investment money in Silicon Valley - and other places - begin to focus on green tech.

It’s time to redesign design education
Don Norman has seen a few things in his 85 years. By education, he is an behavioural scientist and engineer, however by career he’s been so much more. In the 1990s he was a VP at Apple - where he coined the infamous term '“user experience” - before moving on to cofound the Nielsen Norman group UX consulting firm. He has taught at Harvard and Northwestern University, as well as the University of California in San Diego and KAIST in South Korea. To top it all off, he has also been recognised as the godfather of UX.
Now, aged 85, it would be fair to assume that he’s looking to slowdown and do what most people his age would do: retire. Well, you’d be wrong.
Instead of pulling up a rocking chair and watching the sun set, Norman is writing a book about the role design plays in addressing major issues in society. Alongside this, he is also working to make San Diego the 2024 World Design Capital, and he’s taken it upon himself to rethink the entire design education system. Globally.
With a Steering Committee of 16 senior designers drawn from both industry and academia - plus 600 global volunteers - Norman and his team plan to spend the next few years rewriting the book on design education. The initiative comes as part of a major international activity that has been co-sponsored by the UC San Diego Design Lab, IBM Design, and the World Design Organisation (WDO), with Norman sitting as a co-founder and co-director.
Imagine what he’ll try when he hits 90!
